Exposure

No exposure? No learning

Exposure

Learning starts with exposure to the material that you are supposed to learn. This can be in writing, like a book or a handout from your teacher, or a lecture, a video, etc. The important part of this step is that you are well acquainted with the form the material is presented in.

In this step, you would do well to find a source that compliments your preferred method. I know this is not always possible; my suggestion is that you work on your reading or listening skills to make sure you get the most out of this step of the learning process. Of course, there are some resources here to help you with reading and listening skills.

One important thing to remember is to take notes during either reading or listening. To do this, use keywords. These will also be useful for the final step in this method.

The practical side

There is, however, another part to this. There certain skills that need to be learned by doing. Let’s say you want to be a mechanic. You could, look at a video or a teacher do it, after which or during which you follow the same steps. This can, of course, be accompanied by an explanation from either and instructor or a manual.
