Focus

No focus, no learning

I am always focussed, no really, I am

If you are not focussed on the task at hand, then chances are, you are not going to be successful at learning. Sure you can try to learn something while not focusing, but let’s face it, you will be wasting time. Make sure there are no distractions. This means no loud music, no tv, no friends around to keep you from your work. In class, you need to focus on the assignment as well. If your neighbour is distracting you, ask him or her to either be quiet or work together. Working together—if allowed by your teacher—is better.

Most importantly: focus on one thing at a time! People cannot focus on multiple things at the same time, the brain will not allow it. Instead you can switch your focus between tasks, but that is not helpful.

In class it might be easy to focus on one thing at a time, but at home you might feel a bit overwhelmed by the enormous amount of homework you have. My advice: don’t be. You will get through it if you focus on one thing at a time, and if you have a proper planning.

The source

A second thing in this part is that you need to find a source that helps you absorb knowledge easily, just like we saw with exposure. The most common source is writing, but what if you are not a reader? Then it is important to find a spoken text, or if possible, find someone who can highlight the most important parts and ask them to read it out and record it. I know, sounds like a drag, but if it works, it works. Having said that, reading is still the most accessible source for new knowledge. Readily available and used in most schools, books are likely to be your prevalent source.

So if reading is not your thing, try to make it so! More information coming soon.
